Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Parents,

    We would like to invite your bright, talented child to experience learning in an environment that is supportive of individual talents and abilities, in a program designed to meet the unique individual needs of gifted children: Summer Wonders.

    An innovative, highly effective approach to education, Summer Wonders offers singular opportunities to explore diverse subjects in a challenging, creative environment, free from the pressures of tests, homework, and grades. We inspire enthusiasm and motivation for learning, and we expand our students’ academic and inventive horizons in their regular schools.

    Our teacher staff is comprised of a team of outstanding professionals. Some are award winners; others are artists or professionals outside the field of education. All reflect a genuine sensitivity and commitment to learning styles and evoke the curiosity, depth of discernment, and keenness of creative self-expression that are unique to and appropriate for each of the bright young people who come to our program.

    We believe in inspiring critical and creative thinking and in enabling students  to solve problems and affect discovery. This kind of teaching is integral to the whole development of the gifted. We encourage originality and perceptiveness through hands-on activities and inventive participation.

    We believe that students of high potential are one of our country's most vital resources.  They deserve our best efforts and support. Our programs are a highly effective avenue for providing that support through creative strategies, activities, materials, and curricula that elicit and enhance their talents and gifts.

    Do apply early, particularly if your child feels keenly about certain classes. Please encourage him or her to try something new and different - gifted children have more talents than they know! Assure your child that we try to be as flexible as possible in terms of schedule changes after a program begins.

    My children began attending Worlds of Wisdom and Wonder outside Chicago twelve years ago. Watching their passion for learning reignite and their spirits soar convinced me of the need to bring a similar program to Austin area children. I am grateful for the blessing and support of Joan Franklin Smutny, founder of the Chicago program, and Tracey Vickery, my Austin co-founder.
